How SEO works?

Search engines are answer machines that exist to discover, understand and organize the internet’s content in order to offer the most relevant results to the asked query searchers.

Working of search engines:

Search engines have three primary functions. They are:

1.Crawl

Surf the Internet for content, looking over the code/content/web pages for each URL they find. Store and organize the content found during the crawling process.

2.Index

Once a page is in the index, it’s in the running to be displayed as a result of relevant queries to be searched.

3.Rank

The priority provided to the pieces of content that will be the best answer to a searcher’s query, which means that results are ordered by most relevant to least relevant.

The brief explanation on Crawl, Index and Rank as follows:

Crawling Process in Search Engine:

Crawling is the process by which search engines sent out a team of the robot (known as bots, spiders and crawlers) to discover updated content on the web, such as new sites, webpages, changes to existing sites, an image, a video, a pdf files and dead links. To do this, a search engine uses the team of robots which follows an algorithmic process to determine which sites to crawl and how often.

As a search engine’s crawler moves through your site it will also detect and record any links it finds on these pages and add them to a list that will be crawled. This is how new content is discovered. By hopping along this path of links, the crawler is able to find new content and add it to their index called Caffeine (a massive database of discovered URLs) to later be retrieved when a searcher is seeking information that the content on that URL is a good match for.

Indexing Process in Search Engine:

Once a search engine processes each of the pages it crawls, it compiles a massive index of all the content it sees and their location on each page. It is essentially a database of billions of web pages. This extracted content is then stored, with the information then organized and interpreted by the search engine’s algorithm(refer Chapter no.3) to measure its importance compared to similar pages.

Storing and sorting this information requires significant space and both Microsoft and Google have over a million servers each. Search engines process and store information they find in an index, a huge database of all the content they have discovered and deemed good enough to serve up to searchers.

Ranking Process in Search Engine:

The ranking process is a phenomenon of analyzing algorithms applied by Google.com that assigns a number (or) rank to each hyperlinked web page within the World Wide Web. The basic purpose of the ranking process is to list web pages from the most important to the least important, reflecting on a search engine results page when a keyword search occurs.

When someone performs a search with keywords, search engines will check for pages within their index that are the closest match and a score will be assigned to these pages based on an algorithm consisting of hundreds of different ranking signals. This ordering of search results by relevance is known as ranking. These pages (or images & videos) will then be displayed to the user in order of score.

So in order to get the well-rank to the site in search engine results pages- SERP (Refer Chapter no – 2), it’s important to make sure the search engines can crawl and index your site correctly otherwise they will be unable to appropriately rank your website’s content in search results.

Keep this above option as a trigger to make a fabulous presentation. The title of the topic grabs the intention of the user to get attracted by the presentation. Not only is the title great, but it’s also designed in a fantastic way.

Take a piece of paper (or open a Microsoft Word document) and list all the things that you can think of concerning the chosen topic. Remember that you are making a presentation so that you’ll choose only the best information from your list. Get rid of all the unworthy stuff. You can integrate your information with searches.

This feature plays vital importance that you construct a clear and linear structure for your presentation. Think of your presentation like a mechanism of the engine (for example: If one piece is broken, the engine won’t work properly…or won’t work at all!

Forget about complex structures. People don’t remember the slides that they have seen already. Make them fall in love with the feeling of your presentation. They focus only on the slide that they are viewing at a given moment.

Create Marvelous Slides

Your presentation is like a delicious dish; but if it’s not visually appealing, no one will eat it right..?

Most of the people don’t spend enough attention to design when they preparing their presentations. This is the reason you’ll see many ugly presentations on SlideShare.Think about every aspect meticulously in the slide, full of text, and with a horrible spatial disposition.

Insert a URL in your call to action. Avoid “Click here” links and such.

If you insert your URL, people who are interested (but don’t realize that there is a live link in the presentation) can insert that URL in their navigation browser.

2. Insert an Arrow Toward the Link:

Even if someone doesn’t know about the live links inside the presentation, he’ll start wondering what the arrow is all about. These arrows bring more clicks!
